WWMBD?

Hello Everyone!

I am, and always have been, a complete bookworm. But being so busy with school and life in general, my readings have been slacking lately. Lucky for me, I recently came back home on a bit of a hiatus from school (until my new school starts in September). And since nearly all my friends moved away, I have all the time in the world! All. The time. In the world. (I'm already so bored help!)

Anyway, I've decided to start reading one or two books a week, 8 months long, and writing about them on this blog. I mainly read funny books and chicklit , but I also enjoy thrillers, scary books and some of the deeper, more complicated stuff. If you guys have any suggestions of books I should read, please let me know in the comments and I'll make sure to pick it up!

The first book I've read was What Would Mary Berry Do? By Claire Sandy. It's about a woman named Marie Dunwoody who sucks at baking. That is, until she picks up a Mary Berry recipe book at a fair and becomes obsessed with it, finding out that if she practices enough and tries hard, she's actually really quite good at baking. Not too worry though- this isn't just a book about tarts and meringues. Mary also has a lovely husband named Robert -who, for some reason, needs to impress his boss by, you guessed it, baking-, twins girls named Iris and Rose -who are really just quite cute and funny-, and a teenage son named Angus -who is in some sort of relationship with a girl he met online, allthewhile being lusted after by the goth girl across the street, who I feel really quite sorry for-. Marie also has an arch nemesis, Lucy, who -who'd have guessed it- is a really amazing baker. However not everything is as it seems and in this novel friendships flourish, relationships grow, people change, and a whole lot of cakes are baked.

I really, really, really enjoyed this book. Even though it made me hungry, the baking part of it was such an original and fun angle and makes WWMBD stand out from all the other chicklit out there. All the characters were extremely lovable (even the unlovable ones), and the writing was simply hilarious. Something else I really loved about this book was that not only was it written from multiple points of view, there's other ways the story is portrayed rather than just writing what's going on. For instance, Angus' entire POV went through his emails to his online girlfriend and Iris' cheekiness was portrayed perfectly through the letters she sent to her grandma.

All in all, What Would Mary Berry Do? is a wonderful read that I would recommend to anyway who likes to eat and to feel good.

Hugs and Kisses!
